Wheel throwing taster
We bring out the muddy creativity in everyone! (yes, even you)
This 3 hour class is ideal for folks with zero experience who want to try the wheel to see if they like it before taking on a five week class to learn all the tricks. It's unlikely you'll master the wheel in this short time, but you'll have a blast! The maximum class size is four.

We will focus on how to wedge your clay to extract air bubbles, centering it on the wheel and therefor learning how to make the beginning of all shapes : the cylinder. "Throwing" (the verb of using the potter's wheel ) is a technique that requires time and practice to master. This intro course will give you the fundamental information and beginners practice to start you off on your throwing journey.
It’s a muddy road to making your first wobbly wheel thrown piece, but you’ll have a blast along the way. I take you through the process step-by-step, and make sure that everyone comes away making at least one piece. What will this piece look like? You decide, but usually it’s a small cup, vase, bowl or planter.
This class included one piece, which is fired and ready for you to pick up around 6 weeks later. If you’d like to keep more than one item, then we’ll happily fire and glaze them for €8 an item. Yes, it’s functional - you can pop it in the microwave/dishwasher or plant a happy plant in it.
This course is suitable for beginners who have never thrown before, or those who have had little experience.
This session is for those who'd like to be laid back and chill - if you're after something more social, Wine and Class wheel-throwing is the way to go.
Class sizes are strictly limited. The maximum class size is four so there will be plenty of opportunity for 1:1 tuition enabling participants to focus on individual goals and concentrate on particular skills that they want to master.
